We have partnered with Beyond Basics, an organization located in Southfield, Michigan, to develop a tutoring program to assist student participants with their schoolwork with an emphasis on literacy. Beyond Basics (www.beyondbasics.org) is a 501(c)(3) serving the children of Detroit since 2002, focused on reading and writing, art and mentoring.  The organization has more than 1,500 volunteers and staff tutoring students in kindergarten through the 12th grade.  The primary objectives of Beyond Basics focus on improving literacy through one-on-one reading tutoring, providing free books to students and implementation of reading readiness and intervention programs.  Students are evaluated regularly using evidence-based performance metrics.
